Do you know how dog friendly the Oregon Coast is? It seemed to me that a lot of people vacation there because they can take their canine family members. We saw dogs everywhere we stopped on the way down the 101, probably more than I’ve ever seen at a tourist spot. In Cannon Beach it looked like every single person had a dog, as though it were a requirement.

We were headed to Lincoln City as our final destination (with my chihuahua who loves to travel), and were happy to find that we felt welcome everywhere and that there were actually fun things to do that included and even celebrated the dog. Here are 4 wonderful things you can do in Lincoln City with your four legged friends.

Shearwater Inn

The Shearwater Inn is a dog friendly hotel and while we were there, we noticed that a lot of the guests there had a dog with them, which is really fun to see if you are a dog person. The staff here is very friendly and helpful, the location is great–right across the street from fabulous Kyllo’s Seafood Grill and the beach.

For those of you who eat breakfast, a continental breakfast of your choice is delivered to your door every morning, along with a tiny bag of dog treats. In the evenings they offer a wine social hour, and my favorite thing about this hotel besides the view is the fireplace. At night it gets pretty chilly on the coast, and the fireplace makes the room feel cozy and is right next to the sliding glass balcony doors so you can watch the fire and the ocean simultaneously.

They give you a basket with poo bags, dog towels, and water and food bowls to use. There are plenty of grassy areas for a quick dog walk, which leads me to the next dog friendly activity–you can walk your dog on the beach in Lincoln City!

Walk the Beach

This was a big deal to me, I’ve only been able to do it a couple of times and I’m not entirely sure of the legality of one of them. It was a thrill to be able to walk my dog on the beach because I find it very rare that this is allowed. We saw tons of dogs on the beaches. You just need to have them on a leash and clean up after them and you are good. You can also have fires on the beach here, which is crazy beautiful, so you can grab a blanket and stuff to make smores, and really create a nice little family outing. Dog people know that being able to include your dog even in simple things like this is so special and bonding it’s well worth the effort.

Rusty Truck Brewing Patio

Rusty Truck Brewing has a patio with red umbrellas and picnic tables where dogs are welcome. They also have good beer (the Strawberry Wheat is fantastic and perfect for a sunny day) and pub grub like Fish & Chips, Wood Fired Pizzas, and Fish Tacos. We had a great time on the patio and stayed for a good two hours chit chatting and enjoying the sunshine. My dog loved it. This place has loads of character and is family friendly.

Black Squid Beer House

You can bring your pups right inside this cool, spacious Black Squid Beer House┬áso it’s a great place to go year round because you don’t need good patio weather (though they do have an extremely cute little patio too). It’s a locally owned place and the friendly owners are there on site to chat with and help you select the best drinks for your taste.

They really make you feel comfortable with your dog, offering treats and taking your dog’s photo with a retro turquoise polaroid camera to post on their dog board. I love that they celebrate dogs like that. This is the kind of place you can hang out for hours doing work, playing board games, and just sampling all the unique offerings like Rose Kombucha and unusual and hard to find beers of all varieties. We were only there about an hour and there were at least three happy dogs enjoying the space too.

Dog Friendly Lincoln City Bottom Line

If you are thinking of taking your dog with you on an Oregon Coast trip–do it! We started at Astoria and worked our way down. Astoria had a fabulous brewpub called Fort George we wanted to try that welcomes dogs but we didn’t have time. But there are stops you can make all the way down to Lincoln City and not be worried that you can’t bring the pupper.
