Every now and then I come across a restaurant that I can’t get out of my head for years.  The Love Apple is one of those. If I lived in Taos, this is where I would want to come for special occasions like birthdays and celebrations. Everything about it is divine. The food is farm to fork, made from scratch, spectacularly good, and the cozy glowing atmosphere is dreamy.

The Atmosphere

Housed in an old catholic church from the 1800’s, The Love Apple is exploding with character and charm and offers indoor and outdoor seating. Inside is intimate and inviting with exposed wooden beams, fresh flowers, candles, and a sort of eclectic blend of New Mexican and rustic French country decor.

We dined alfresco on the patio under twinkling bistro lights. The mood is cozy and warm, all the people around us lost in their conversations but somehow connected. It’s one of those rare, magical places.

The Food

This is comfort food elevated to the extreme and prepared with intention. The menu highlights seasonal local organic food and the offerings are exquisite. My son, who is an omnivore, tried antelope for the first time (he liked it), while I feasted on salad with peaches and goat cheese. My salad was off the charts with farm fresh greens which contrasted perfectly with sweet peaches and creamy breaded warmed goat cheese and crumbled pecans. Heaven. They served melt-in-your-mouth home made corn bread muffins with our food, and they were so good, we had to ask for a second serving.

The creative menu changes with the seasons and a meal here is the kind you never forget and reminisce about long after. I’d put it in my all-time top 20 meals for sure.

For dessert, we had coffee and chocolate cake that was so delicious, one or two bites would do the job. I love how they served it on a metallic rimmed plate with fresh blackberries, a dollop of fresh whipped creme, edible flowers and a heart shaped butter cookie for a gorgeous layered presentation.

Coffee was served mix-matched with floral cream and sugar decanters and a french press. Every little detail was made to be savored.

Bottom Line

The Love Apple is what going out to dinner should be all about. Getting nourished on multiple levels, enjoying gorgeous surroundings, and walking away satisfied and knowing you just got a good dose of nutrition. It’s worth a road trip or even getting on a plane for the beautiful experience of dining at the Love Apple.
