The Ritz-Carlton Denver, the city’s oldest Five Diamond hotel, has undergone some gorgeous updates recently. If you haven’t been in a while, it’s time to return. This is one of my favorite hotels in Denver. Sumptuous, plush surroundings, luxurious amenities, and a staff that is warm and welcoming make this hotel one you don’t want to leave.

The Lobby

As soon as you walk in you’re greeted by a friendly staff who has it together. They’ll have you checked in very quickly and address any desires. They call you by name and show genuine interest that you have everything you need.

An updated lobby shines with elegance. Lovely shimmery silver upholstered chairs and multiple seating and gathering areas with upscale finishes offer a comfortable, pleasing space to meet up with business teammates or friends and family.

You can’t see the metallic threads very well in the photos, but that sheen is gorgeous and rich. The lamps are crystal and reflect light while the granite topped tables give you a place for your drinks. In the mornings, there is a complimentary coffee and tea station.

The Suite

When we first walked into our suite, we were wowed. I’m a big fan of metallics and loved how the silvery sofa shimmered at me. That tree trunk print behind the sofa adds some earthiness while still reflecting silver and gunmetal shine. Black and white nature images on the left are calming and the room has just the right balance of comfort and glam.

Grayish walls, mixed textures and patterns, and dark rich wood offer the perfect blend of masculine and feminine touches. Shiny silver accoutrements accessorize. A huge desk makes a great work space–if you can bring yourself to work here, because there are adventures to be had in this city and even if you just want to relax, the room inspires focused relaxation. You want to take it in, not be distracted on your computer.

When we first arrived, it was gloomy and Vertigo was playing, so we grabbed some snacks from the Club Room and snuggled up and watched a little tv. The room was cozy.

The Bedroom

A spacious bedroom gives you breathing room while a fluffy comfy bed makes you want to sleep in. I slept great here, which is a feat for me because I’m an insomniac. I’d choose sleep over food–over most things, so a good night’s sleep is like gold to me. Speaking of gold, look at the lamps. They have a textured pattern and a chunky crystal base. There’s a seating area in the corner with a shimmery chair, and my favorite thing about this room besides immense comfort level is the chevron wallpaper. There’s a lot of subtle design elements that come together beautifully.

The bed faces a big flat screen and behind that are heavy, blackout curtains. Not all hotels have them, so I don’t take them for granted and they block out street noise as well as light. At turn-down service, you get chocolates. There are reading lights overhead and if you can’t figure out how to turn them off–the button is on the nightstand (it took me a while!).

The Bath

The bath is spacious with a separate WC, shower, soaking tub and marble countertops with under-mount sinks. Bath amenities are plentiful, but I requested fragrance free and used the alternate which included all the regular stuff (shampoo, lotion, conditioner and body wash), happy the Ritz-Carlton offers that option.

I travel with my own bath salts (travel size Aura Cacia) for when I’m at hotels with big soaking tubs. At home I can’t be still long enough to take a bath, but when I’m traveling, it’s a different story.

The Spa

This spa offers one of the most interesting treatments I’ve come across, and one of my all time favorites, the MicroBrew Ex-BEER-ience. Denver is called the Napa Valley of Beer because there are so many local microbreweries. This treatment embraces that in the best way. You get a beer to sip on upon arrival for the treatment, and one at the end.

It’s Great Divide which I was thrilled to try because it’s a very popular brewery and I’ve missed it on past trips. I was not disappointed. The starter beer was the Farmhouse Ale, and it was delicious.

After a few minutes of sipping in my robe, I got on the table under the Vichy shower (one of the best spa experiences ever invented) for a vigorous hops-mixture scrub followed by the shower. Then you get a beer-mask painted on so that your skin can absorb nutrients beer is full of, followed by a scalp massage with the beer. It’s great for hair too.

Post-treatment, I sat on a chaise sipping the dark beer while reading a magazine. So decadent! If you like beer, you have to do this. It’s seriously the best way to enjoy beer ever created. I love embracing it as medicinal and healing as well.

The Club Lounge

Last but definitely not least, the Club Lounge at the Ritz Carlton Denver is fabulous and enhances your stay tremendously. There are separate rooms ideal for business meetings. Besides delicious home made food from the popular ELWAY’S restaurant downstairs, the staff is knowledgeable and will tell you about all the good stuff in Denver to experience. It feels more homey to have Club Lounge access, and it’s nice to mingle with other guests.

As a vegetarian, I appreciated the abundance of vegetables and veg options presented at every offering. It’s always nice to have a rainbow of fresh veggies to dip in yummy salad dressing, like purple cauliflower, cucumber and carrot sticks, red and yellow peppers, and tomatoes. They also serve adult beverages including local brew, Blue Moon. Their chocolate chip cookies are to die for (my son became an instant cookie monster) and food and drinks are rolled out constantly throughout the day. This club room puts others to shame with their generosity.

Location

At the Ritz Carlton Denver you have easy access to some great spots in Denver including the wonderful Union Station and charming Larimer Square. There is also a complimentary hotel car service that will take you to places within a two-mile radius.

Dog Friendly

This is a dog friendly luxury hotel that remembers your dog’s name just like they remember yours. Our dog was just as comfortable as we were. It is so much more fun to travel with your dog, and sometimes it’s necessary. It’s not always easy to find someone to watch your dog while you’re away, especially last minute. So it’s nice to know you can just bring her along. We try to bring our dog as much as possible because it makes the trip so much more enjoyable to have her with us.
